Lee Roy Selmon has a history that combines family scholarship football with volunteer work in the community. The first is his family. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children in a Eufala farm. In football, he was with three of his brothers from Oklahoma. All three made All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey was one of the starters for the entire 1973 season. Lee Roy was named the most offensive lineman in the nation by the Outland and Lombardi Awards. During his three years as the starting quarterback for Oklahoma, the Sooners went 32-1-1 and won two national titles. In 1975, Selmon was awarded the third scholarship of his career and was recognized as a National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon obtained his master's degree in educational studies. Lee Roy was involved in voluntary work for 10 hours a week during his time at college. Then he settled in Tampa following college. He played with the Buccaneers for nine years and played three times in the all-pro league. His business career began. The first position he held was an Account Relations Manager at First Florida Bank, Tampa. In the past, he worked on the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. There was no doubt that In 1982, The Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy one of 10 outstanding youngsters throughout the United States. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 pounds in the time he played football at college. In 1975, he was the captain of the group. Lee Roy joined the University of South Florida in 1993 as the Associate Director of Sports. In 1988, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. In addition, he was inducted into an appearance in the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave an award of the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor who made this presentation.
